Greetings,
I thought I would share some pics of my finds from my recent agate hunting trip.

First I want to say, be careful out in the heat everybody. I thought I was just fine after this trip making sure to drink lots of water and take breaks. I was wrong and came down with a real bad case of heat exhaustion. Beware that if you get heat exhaustion you become more susceptible to get it in the future especially in the next couple days. My biggest mistake was likely not enough electrolytes. Needless to say I learned my lesson and am adding beverages with electrolytes to my normal trip preparations.

Okay now I will get off my soap box and show you some agates. :)

The first group I found at one of the Moose Lake area public pits. It is a well searched pit. I was surprised I was able to pull out one pretty decent one in a quick hunt there.

All the others were found in 3 separate private gravel pits (with permission).

Moss agate

Nothing huge from this next spot but I cannot complain about finding this many agates in a couple of hours searching! At one point I knelt down to pick up a little agate and before I stood back up I picked up 7 agates. ;)

Some "garden rocks" including some big pieces of jasper, a couple moss agates and one of those basalt with feldspar crystal rocks (I forget the nickname they are given).

I hope you enjoy. Happy hunting and stay cool. :)

Thanks everyone, I am glad you like them.

Porphyry. I will have to try to remember that. I probably could have filled my truck with it if I wanted to.

Those are some real beauts you found there Eric. Nice!

I always get a couple large Gatorade/Powerades and water them down to about 50/50. Best way to replace electrolytes and water without getting the Gatorade yuk-mouth lol.

Some of the porphyrys in the far northern Midwest are Tillites/gowganda tillites. They're supposed to be somewhat rare but I find tons of em in MI. Yours looks kind of like one but I don't really know the difference between a tillite and a porphyry tbh...

Thanks! LOL about the gatorade yuk-mouth. Up at my mom's we were just discussing alternatives to gatorade for that very reason. ;)

Thanks! I am already looking forward to my next trip, though unsure when that will be. Surely a sign of a true obsession. Happy hunting. :icon_thumleft:

Oh believe me it has! A common dream theme for me. I have made some great finds in my dreams but it often gets very confusing. Also on more than one occasion have dreamed that I found a projectile point only to realize it is bendable as if it is made of rubber and not stone. At least it is better than when I dream I am working. :)
