While out detecting and panning I ran across some nice pings on the detector. This one I found while digging and cannot really id it. Scratch test shows nothing, have not run a sg test yet but it feels dense. It is non magnetic, used an ohm meter and it registers on the scale. Hard to cut and looks solid from what I was able to do.
There are so many different types of rocks here it will make your head spin. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks guys.

A few more after polishing

It had a nice silvery grey shine to it.

From the polish it looks like hematite but you say you cant scratch it? What did you use? Have you tried a streak test? It does look like it was cut, the flat, and looks very much like a bit of slag or bloom iron *but not magnetic?*.

Bloom iron slag typically is weakly magnetic and not quite so shiny (unless polished). Yeah, I've made bloom iron a couple of times.

The streak test left no marking. I did cut it with a dremel, and it chewed threw some blades just to get a sliver off. I worked on it for about 2 hours doing a small cut and trying to polish it. Also, non magnetic. Specific gravity was around 4.2

I was wondering about slag as well but it is non magnetic. I have found a lot of iron slag here in the river but this one seems different. I may just polish it and make a nice pendant for my girls.

Pretty hard then. At that density its looking a lot like slag silicate. I like your idea of a pendant as it does take a good polish.

I think a pendant is the way to go. I am going to polish it some and find a way to either wire wrap it or figure out how to mount some chain eyes
