Took the hammer to break some pieces off this rock to identify

So I whacked this rock a couple times with the hammer to break some pieces off and it was a lot harder then expected. I was told it was jade when it was given to me years ago. Any input would be appreciated thanks.

On the look of it i would say it is jade.

Why are you sure it is not jade, what makes you certain?
