Seen lots of glass that thick..it's called slag, typically left over from a mold.

I used to go to the crater of diamonds, for several years, ifound way more broken diamonds than unbroken
something about the fractures when a diamond breaks are much different than glass or quartz.

Caleb that thing really does look like a large broken diamond, where on earth di ya get it?

Once in awhile i have seen topaz fracture that way, but not often.

i have found plenty of that type of "glass" , I would guess it's glass...only thing is that the color of the ones I found is a green/blue color...

Caleb, I personally think what you have is quartz. Just so you know, IF that is a diamond, it CAN shatter if you drop it onto concrete. It would be insane to try and "break" a diamond that big just to prove it was a diamond. Diamonds do break and they CAN shatter if you "hammer" on them or even drop one on a hard surface. All you need to do is take it to a gemologist or buy a diamond tester to find out. You should believe that some of us do know what we are talking about!

I have a sapphire that I tried to scratch the piece of glass vigorously yet not even a mark.

As already mentioned. Take it to the nearest pawn shop or jeweler. They will tell you if it's anything more than glass. I had no preconceived notions of anything. My first thought was it looks like glass, after I enlarged the photo on a large home PC screen. Having said that, it appears that a rough diamond has the same general appearance, so have it tested.

Caleb, I think I might have an ID for you.

Clear Obsidian. Was thinking the flaked areas (top right pic most recently posted)
look very much like the same markings on a large piece of black obsidian that
I have. Looked up some samples on Google pics, and see there is clear obsidian
and it looks very much like what you have.

I'm with Diggummup. Enough of this guessing game stuff...get that thing to a
jeweler or geologist and find out what it really is.
