Pyrite or limonite after pyrite (pseudomorph). A streak test with a brown streak = limonite.

Galena crystals. I'm In Patrick County VA and they are all over my yard. Most are still in big chunks of quartz.

Looks like limonite after pyrite cubes as Eu citzen and DDancer suggest. I have many of these in my collection from an area I hunt for mule deer here in Montana.

Ok, I hate to ask, but what is a streak test?
Just rubbing it across something? Thank you!

Hi again, do not recall seeing any quarts near them, I am thinking the limonite maybe the answer. But there are tons of quarts in the area, an old gold mine not to far away too.
I did get back to fairy stone Park with the grand kids, they had a ball looking for rocks, but had more fun on the paddle boats. We ran out of time, or I would have taken you up on hunting your yard, thanks again.
Thanks,

streak test is done by pressing and dragging across unglazed porcelain to leave a streak of the pulverized material. The color of the streak is not always the same (actually is often different) from the color of the mineral. Unglazed porcelain can be found on a "streak plate" or in a pinch, the underside of a toilet tank lid ;)
