A great offer I will take you up on that, I will send you and email.

Do you have any records on the inter-island voyages when the ships were trading? Lots could be learned there.

Hey Dutch VOC, your list is incomplete. There is another Endracht lost off the west coast of Florida in 1654 found by Capt. Carl Fismer: http://spanishmaintreasure.com/about/.
There is also another unidentified Dutch wreck off Baileys Bluff near Holiday, Florida on the west coast. Do you have any info on these wrecks?

The thread says List of all Dutch VOC Shipwrecks. Just because a ship was Dutch doesn't necessarily mean it was owned by the VOC.

I believe the Eendracht was actually a 14-gun privateer in the service of the Dutch WEST India Company, not the Dutch EAST India Company.

Here are just a few more examples...

The Dutch frigate Erfprinz sank off Cape Cod in 1783
The Dutch ship Tyjger burned off Nieuw Amsterdam (New York City) in 1613 or 1614
The Dutch ship Prins Maurits was lost off the coast of New York in 1657
The Dutch ship Mary was lost off new York in 1802
The Dutch barque Adonis wrecked off New Jersey in 1859
The Dutch ship Eustatia foundered off the coast of Delaware in 1664
The Dutch merchantman Jane Pierre foundered off the coast of Virginia in 1772
The Dutch ship Janus was lost off Virginia in 1822
An unidentified Dutch sloop foundered off the coast of South Carolina in 1760
The Dutch merchantman Pinta Holndes sank off the coast of Florida in 1634
An unidentified Dutch ship was lost off the coast of Florida in 1676
The Dutch ship Marianne was lost off the coast of Florida in 1818
The Dutch ship Admiral Saultzemann was lost off the coast of Florida in 1858
The Dutch merchantman Stadt Cortrycht wrecked off a reef near Bermuda in 1783
The Dutch ship Vriendscaap wrecked on Bermuda in 1823
The Dutch ship Genovese was lost in the Bahamas in 1669
The Dutch merchantman Jufron Gertrud wrecked in the Bahamas in 1694

I've got a lot more information regarding captains, cargoes, and more particulars of the above mentioned losses, but I don't want to bore anyone with a terribly long list so I will stop there. Also remember there were many other Dutch privateers and merchantman sailing throughout the Caribbean, especially in the vicinity of St. Eustatius, St. Martin, Bonaire etc. In 1628 the Dutch captured a Spanish Treasure fleet in Cuba. So there was lot of exploration, colonializing, privateering, done by the Dutch and it wasn't all carried out by ships owned by the VOC. (Although the VOC was like its own powerful country)

Hope this helps

The ship you talk about is from the WIC(West Indie Company)
You first had the VOC (United Eastindie Company). 1602 - 1798
The WIC (1621-1674) bankrupt
The new WIC (1675-1792)
The WIC lived from slavetrading.
Most known man : Piet Heyn (Luitenant-admiral). He did the capturing of the Spanish treasurefleet in Cuba 1628 with 31 ships and 4000 men.
In the night of 7-8 september 1628 hit the "Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion" against the "Witte Leeuw" and was taken. In the morning the Dutch saw about 20 other Spanish treasureships. 9 lowered their anchors and surrenderd. See the battle of Mantazas.

What i love about treasure hunting is it keeps throwing up surprises. I started cleaning a cannon ball that I found a while ago. But its different than the other we have found. It has a seem around the middle, and a piece of metal sticking up from the top, with what looks like a hole in it. A mate of mine who works with IODs thinks it could be a very old hand grenade ?

Try to post photos here with little luck so I have stuck them on my blog keepthefaith

Any help ?

The VOC ship we have think we have found and have been diving and salvaging for the past two years is the Dutch East Indianman "Aakterkerke" wrecked off Plymouth 1721 cargo 32 chest of gold and 5000 bars of silver. Now the arguments will start about whether the wreck is VOC or not. We have put every piece of research and evidence in our book BLIND FAITH as well as every find we had up to the date the book went to print. Fiction or none fiction? ,VOC or not VOC ? Namban Tetsu block or not ? I say make up your own mind.

If it is a hand grenade, the weight should be considerably less than that of a cannon ball of similar size. Such hand grenade finds are common on 18th and 19th century shipwrecks. I found quite a few.

Hollow shot, from the same time period, filled with gunpowder, meant to be shot from a cannon, had no protrusion. There was a wooden plug with a fuse.

If the weight is the same, it might be a part of a bar shot.

No gold or silver,we found some many finds, small lead gold weights, a swivel gun lead apron, hundreds of musket shot, cannon balls, cannons, big lead aprons. small powder weights , a Swedish fid, the only VOC iron Ballast block ever found which is so beautiful and we believe to be "Namban Tetsu" samurai. But no gold or silver. We found the iron 56 pound weights marked King George 1st 1714 that where used to salvage the wreck when in went down. But they did not all the treasure
So we have put all our research, charts, conversations and dives into a book. Now here in the UK we our out and public. We have a visit from English Heritage yesterday and we will make a smooth transition to hand it over to them. Two and half years of good diving and some great finds, but time to move on ;-)

Although we have just found the HMS Pallas sunk in 1795, got a lovely small iron swivel gun off her, no treasure on her so not for us... EH can have that one as well.

Think the book would make a great Christmas present it available on keepthefaith Thanks

Great list, that represents a heck of a lot of good work.

Any idea which of the lost ships might be the "Deadwater Wreck" in Western Australia? She hasn't been excavated yet, but there's a lot of evidence of sightings and she is believed to be a Dutchman. If anyone would like the link to info re this, let me know and I'll dig it up for you and post it.

Hi,
Not sure if I should start a thread, because I don't have any more information on this one than there already is on the net. Here's a link to tons of stuff from the WA Museum about sightings and so on. I believe they're now trying to locate what's left of her. Can hardly wait to find out which ship it is. The only thread for which I have info I have "dug up myself" is the one that now appears that it could be the Madagascar, but people still find that too difficult to believe because they haven't heard first hand accounts of oral history from the island as I have.
