:icon_pirat: Those were the days, today is the day and Tomorrow the gold price increases again. I'll bet these guys would have loved to make their finds with today or tomorrow's gold prices rather than the prices in those days. :icon_scratch:

Tomorrow is the Day! :laughing9:

I love that quote too -- to find it "you just keep looking"

and from everyone I know, and everything I've been taught, you keep looking even AFTER you find it

MORE TO COME ASHORE!!!

You have to remember that back in the old days gas was 25 cents a gallon and a gallon of milk was 10 cents. And a oz of gold was what 100 bux or less. The labor rate was 1-2 bux and hour. You would think the cost of living is now higher.Gas is 4-5 bux a gallon a gallon of milk is 2-3 bux and gold is almost up to $1400 a oz.The labor rate ranges from $5 to 100 bux an hour.So todays finds are just like they were 50 years ago.Nothing has changed.Except now you can buy a million dollar house for 50k.

Kinda what Ivan said and yes comparing the distant past to today but if you compare the 80's to today, "costs" aren't as exponential as value has become.

Gas for example might be 3-4 times as expensive but it's still only a total of $3 more while the gold gaining 3-4 times is a total of $1090 more.

Now just to find those guys/gals that will work for % :icon_pirat:

So let’s say that it costs 16k to operate a 90 day 1715 operation.
If you found 11 ounces of gold you would break even.

If we say in the 80’s our costs we’re 3.5 times less then it cost 4572 to operate
Those same 11 ounces of gold @$380 = 4180. You have a loss of 9% roughly

So I guess we have a realized gain of 9% in 30 years.
Wow I need more Bud, I can’t believe I just did that!

Re: 1715 Crews and all TH'ers here's what you want to find!!

:laughing9: Thinking that hard makes my head hurt. :notworthy: 50 years ago the gold price was about $50 an ounce. Today it is $1486. That looks like a serious increase. Gas was 21.9 when I was in high school with what we used to call "price wars" bringing it down to 15.9 and less on occasion. I worked in a gas station as a teen. I remember buying gas in a 5 gallon gas can and getting change from a dollar bill.
If you had invested in gold back then your increase would look like this; one pound investment $50 X 16oz.= $800 in 1960 would now be $1486 X 16 = $23,776.00.
Compare milk. In 1960 about .30 a gallon. today it is $3.89 11 times the cost
A burger, fries and a coke.........1960 about .55 Again, today $3.95 8 times the cost
My 1959 Chevy Impalla was about $2300. What is the price of a new Chevy Impalla today? In order to keep up with the gold increase it would have to cost about $66,700 Nope, not even close!

It seems to me that the price of gold has far outraced the cost of inflation. It has increased to about 29 times the cost in 1960. :laughing7:
