MEMPHIS TREASURE FIRM MAREX LOCATES GOLD SHIP
Capt Herbert Humphreys ( USMM) Chairman of Marex , announced today that the company had located , dived on , and filmed the major part of a valuable gold laden steamship lost off the Eastern coast of the USA. All Humphreys would say was that the ship was lost prior to the Civil War and is located about 40 miles offshore in international waters. The wreck was located after Marex conducted a side scan sonar search of the suspected target area. A cesium magnetometer search followed by diver inspection was then used to confirm the target.
We have positively identified the wreck as described in the research of Dr Robert Stenuit of Brussels, Belgium, said Hank Hudson Marex VP. From this detailed research which includes contemporary newspaper reports we have every expectation of a profitable and interesting recovery of pre civil war coins and artifacts.
Marex has detailed information on the steamship, her passengers, and the valuable gold cargo she carried. The ships passenger manifest included several prominent congressman as well as numerous wealthy passengers.
Capt Humphreys further stated that the company’s dive team had conducted a number of onsite dives and photographic surveys. Marex has used the results of these surveys to compile a mosaic of the wreck which will be invaluable in planning the next phase salvage operations.
