KINGDOM OF SPAIN / COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA

I found this a very interesting read on the Spanish vessels
La Galga and Juno. Alot of times you hear or read about
things but don't know the exact details. I have no opinion
either way on this matter and it may have been posted
or discussed before but I found it interesting.

BTW, is there any developments with Virginia Gold?

Re: KINGDOM OF SPAIN / COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA

This is in my opinion why the State of Florida has not issued any new leases or permits on any ship wreck dating 1733 or later.
The State of Florida has NO LEGAL rights to say what has or has not been Abandoned.
This is (my opinion) why the State of Florida refused to issue me a SEARCH PERMIT for my so called Ghost Ship on the West Coast of Florida.
It is I believe a Spainish ship but without a search permit and the right to take a sample of the wood for dating I may never know one way or the other.
YES, I can dive the area in question and take photos but I cannot do anything else like magging the area in question AND I cannot remove ANYTHING-meaning a single sliver of wood. Photos are a joke because the vis is "O" period.
What I was planning on doing was to recover the SHIP as complete as possible AS IS. Then the State could do their study as they saw fit.
I BELIEVE that this ship would be the oldest ship EVER to be recovered anywhere in the U.S..
    Enough said,

    Tom,

That is very interesting. Are you in a position to give us any information, such as which Court ruled on the case, or whether one of the coastal states issued the licences, and whether Spain showed any interest or had any involvement. Also, were these the first licences issued for these particular wrecks, or were they repeats of licences originally issued prior to the 2000 Sea Hunt case ?

Good luck with the recoveries, by the way.

When collaborating with a non-profit, is there any profit for you?

I believe to remember to have read that later on Sea Hunt signed an agreement with Spain in 2003 to recover the JUNO and GALGA. Spain alleged the immunity of sovereignty, in the same way that Odyssey with the Sussex.

I'd love to see that article, I don't think that is the case.

It was in a forum of Mel Fisher. I believe to remember that intervened a fellow called Louis Balero. I think that it was in 2003.
