The mystery deaths of the Confederate submarine, the HL Hunley' crew has been solved - they accidentally killed themselves.
The sub was raised in the year 2000, and has been in conservation and under study since then.

I remember when one of my favorite authors Clive Cussler, and his team, found the Hunley. He recounted the story in one of his non-fiction books. I also read this story about how it sank...I am still not convinced 100% that they have this correct but...I have not seen the wreck in person so, I guess I will have to go with their analysis. The Hunley had sunk several times before killing the crew members...man...those were some very brave men.

Ahhhh...who found the Hunley? This is an interesting bit of drama.
Dr E. Lee Spence saw it in 1970 and published it's location in a couple of books.
Clive Cussler and NUMA went and 'found' it again and got the credit.

It is an incredible relic of maritime warfare history - super neat!
I found images of Lt Dixon's "lucky" coin that he called " My Life Preserver"...!
Story goes during the battle of Shilo,
he took a minne ball in his leg, but the round hit this twenty-dollar gold coin - he survived that battle,
but when he volunteered for this special assignment, aboard the Hunley, the coin couldn't/didn't save him then...!
