I used 3/8 in. heavy duty plastic that was given to me by a friend. The frame is made out of 1/2 in. square oak. My first grizzly was a paint roller grid, which didn't classify small enough. The second was a punch plate with 1/4 in. openings which worked okay, but I think that I was loosing some smaller gold (all that I can find around here) after some testing, so now I'm on my third grizzly, but haven't been able to try it yet because the water flow near my gravel bar won't run the box.

These snip right off with clippers.
Easy to weld closer together too.
BBQ grill works too.
