Whites 5500/D series 3 detector

Hi guys, just bought a new in the box Whites 5500/D series 3 detector. Does anyone out there have any experience with this machine? It is so beautiful and brand new I am afraid to use it. I can't decide whether to use it or put it on ebay and save my money and get a DFX or Minelab Explorer 2. Or should I use it and keep it for a backup unit? I used to own a whites 6000/D years ago and it was a super machine. It would go deep in both all metal and discriminate mode. You had to use a lot of fast motion on the discriminate mode but would it ever go deep. I live in south central Oregon and there is a lot of magnetic black sand and alkali out here so it is really tough ground.
