Question on operating frequency of detectors

I was wondering if someone could elaborate on operating frequencies of detectors. I read constantly that detector #1 has 12 kHz frequency while detector #2 has 10 kHz ect.

Is one frequency rating or amount better than the other? Is one better at finding certain types of metals such as gold or silver while others are better for modern clad?

Any info is appreciated.

its been a while since i thought about this, but i think it goes something like this........lower frequencies penetrate the ground deeper but are less sensative to small targets, where higher frequencies are more sensative but dont penetrate very deep. thats about it in a nutshell. so to answer your question, yes, some frequencies are better suited to jewelry and coin hunting and some are better at relic hunting.

i think i read that the higher freq is better on gold and the low freq is better for relic hunting.

My GTI 2500 has 8 frequencies all in the mid-range running from 12.0 up to 12.7 khz. It's designed that way so you can switch if another detector is running on the same frequency and is bleeding over. Monty
