Best rechargeable batteries nowadays?

Not that I need any for my nox, but picked up a second hand detector that runs on AA's. I figured I could save some money in the long run with rechargeable.

Google says the Panasonic Eneloop to be top of the list. Anyone have any other recommendations /thoughts?

I am using GP and Varta NiMH cells, both working OK, Varta seems to degrade a bit slower though.
