The Cibola already has a All Metal VCO pinpoint button. The ground balance is good even in hot soils and in moderate black sands. Instead of modding a good machine, just get a Vaquero if you want manual ground balance.

Terry I would get a vaquero but don't need two machines because I doubt if I sold cibola I would get remotely close to what I payed for it. Will tesoro add the manual ground balance if I sent it in. I wouldn't mind losing the warranty if I could get this option.

This is why manufactures make many detectors, each with different features than the ones that they sell for less $$$. Just save up and buy the Vaquero or other upgraded detectors to get the most fun for the buck. I don't think Tesoro would add the GB circuit but it never hurts to ask. I have been asking for a new Clean Sweep Coil for my Tiger Shark and they won't sell me one.

I don't really know if Rusty and the crew would add the modification or not. If they did, it would probably end up costing more than just selling your Cibola and buying a new Vaquero. Depending on your Cibola's condition and whether or not you still have the original box, it's worth $250-$300.00 ($362.00 New). A Vaquero is $446.00 new, so even if they charged you $100.00 for the mod and shipping, you still have $461.00 into a Cibola, when you could have had a Vaquero for less.

The second half of the equation is- Do you Really need to ground balance a Cibola? In 95-percent of the soils you'll encounter relic hunting I would say no. Of course, we all know there are some nasty red clays and volcanic soils that only a manual Ground Balancing unit can handle, but if that's where you are hunting more than 50-percent of the time the Cibola is not your first line machine anyway.

I hunt in arkansas soil which granted most of the fields I hunt have always been hay fields or possibly a corn field years back I haven't had any trouble with mineralization. I never had problems even with other manual ground balance detectors. I didn't know if the ground balance would add depth to it or not. I'm already seeing better results as far as depth compared to dads at pro and brothers Garrett 2500

Hi Civil War.I don't think Tesoro will do the mode. There are a few Cibola users on findmall Tesoro forum that have the mode because they relic hunt like you and did the mode.It is not hard if you are handy with these things.I know they take the pinpoint button out and replace it with a toggle also.So you can switch to all metal and ground balance in all metal.Go to findmall,go to the Tesoro forum.Ask this same question.A awesome mod dude called sven will respond to you quickly. He has the full instructions on the net. Also he does this mod really cheap i think. But he is good.He built his own pi detector. Some just like to have this done.It makes for a better Cibola for sure. And no one else has one.So it is unique. But yeah, it is simple to do.Go to findmall,Tesoro. :-D

I understand where your coming from with the mods, all my radio equipment is modified in some way shape or form. If you have other detectors for back up, and you don't mind voiding the warranty, then you might as well.

I have read a lot of post.Larry,on findmall is a serious hunter. He hangs out on the minelab ctx 3030 findmall forum. If you look at the bottom of the detectors he uses you will see a mod cibola.Did you look on utube, mod cibola. Also Google mod Tesoro cibola. But yea,Sven has done it.And alot have talked about it on findmall.Hang out in findmall some.Under modifications. ;-)

I have seen Larry and Sven talk about it some. I could do it but am just wondering is there a major difference. I really hate to void a warranty over something hardly noticeable

That is a good question. It depends alot i guess if you have mineralized soil or not.I know you can change coils for sure.It would void the warranty doing the mod.If you really like that cibola, you may want to consider a vaquero in the future.I have had two.And going to buy another myself.

What is the three position toggle for?.I just googled cibola mod and went down and found something.Treasurelenx,Modifications. Are you planning the gb were the push button is.There is so many ways you can do this. You could do away with the Three position toggle that changes frequency,i mean how often do you use that? The push button on the cibola is just a button that switches from disc to all metal. If you add a gb you could just hold the button in to gb in all metal. You see,you need to gb in all metal.Give it time on findmall, you will get alot of help with this.I am glad you like the cibola. :-V
