compadre gold earring fail?

Not much. Try it with ANY preset ground balance machine. Ace 150/250, F2, whatever..

Terry is right. Any detector with a preset ground balance would have the same result. That is why you need to spend more for GB.

Gotcha..so with a Compadre there's certain soils I need to avoid? Is there an easy way to tell where to avoid? I heard wet sand at the beach is no good but actually saw some videos of a guy doing well with a compadre on wet beach sand.

Not all wet saltwater sand has the same concentrations of salt and black sand. That is why some hunters say such an such is OK for wet sand hunting when it would suck for the rest of us. The best for wet saltwater sand is either a PI or a multi frequency detector like the Excal, Etrac, Sov GT, etc.

Thanks, I'm more concerned with the soil at parks. Somebody in Oregon told me the NW has a ton of iron in our soil..not sure if it's the same here in Vancouver BC and how much it will really hurt the compadre. I don't mind missing tiny pieces of jewelry.

I just spent 2 hours at a friends house hunting for a diamond post earing. I tried my Compadre on a test earing and could pick it up if I was within 2 inches. My Lobo did better in discriminate mode and much better in all metal. The biggest problem was the site where he thought it was lost was super trashy. Sometimes there were 3 or 4 targets in one sweep. On testing my Propointer on the test earing, it would only beep when it was within 1/2 inch even with a new battery. Never did find it. steve

the compadre is very capable on his class. Take into account ground minerals, that's why it won't work for gold prospecting
