I bought a nice big-box bandido II today. I haven't used it yet but tried to test it out and discovered that I'm going to need to read the manual for it. It's very different compared to the newer Tesoros that I'm used to. It's got the original 8inch donut as well as a round 11inch DD coil and a 4inch. The coils are older and heavier than the newer ones too.

I had one a long time ago. It paid for itself probably 50 times over.

It's a great old detector. I bought mine years ago when they first come out. I have 4, 7, and 8 inch coils for it. Found lots of coins, relics, and even gold nuggets with it. It's a work horse for sure.

Manual vs auto tune is kind of confusing to me.

Does that option only apply to all-metal mode? I am assuming it does since it (head scratch) appears to effect threshold.

Can someone explain it to me and why I would use one instead of the other?

This old detector got me started with Tesoro. It picked targets up that my Fisher Goldbug Pro couldn't see. After that i almost completely went analog with Tesoro's.
