I pick this up at a thrift store I usually don't go to because their prices are too high. This is a signed Kathleen O'Neal necklace out of Ocracoke North Carolina. It looks silver but I'll have to acid test it as it's not marked. It is a really well-made hand made piece. Paid $20. Below is a link to her website.

Acid test was positive and it weighed in at 1.76 Troy ounces.

Prices for her pieces are high. Nice find. However, that is one ugly piece of jewelry. Looks like it was made and then run.over by a truck.

Agreed. Not the most attractive piece but I admire hand crafted items and the inspiration and imagination that goes into making art.

Nice piece ugly or not. Most modern art is ugly anyway, lol. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so they say.

So I emailed the artist and she replied with the following: "

This piece is around 23 years old. It is mine and is all sterling silver...should have ss for sterling silver engraved with my name on the back...I have only a vague idea of the cost at that time...since it was such an early piece I don't think I charged more than 200$ for it. the chain I believe is the original style I used but looks like it was polished while the patina on the piece was maintained...the stone was I believe a moss agate

Great find. I agree it is hard to look at, but I love Ocracoke.

It looks like someone was melting down old jewelry...
and the crucible fell over...
And a piece of moss agate was "swept up" in the puddle .. heh :)

It's a nice piece. Kind of a Madonna look. Beautiful, well except for the paper clip...and the nailclippers.

I dunno, for the value of the silver I think I'd print that email she sent and store it away with the piece. Early is generally more sought after for any artist. Ya never know, in 20 more years her stuff could be the next "Tiffany ".

You can tell its quality even if not in style or to everyone's taste. Nice pick!
