Here I am at the local ARC on senior Tuesday No more than an hour ago I woke up from a nap and said "I think I'll got to the thrift store. In the jewelry case this night they have an old pocket watch. I run down a lady to open the display case and get back cover off and to my delight it's a true RR grade 21 jewel 5 adjust, Father Time with not single hairline on the double sunk RR dial. With tax and all it cost me $162.72 because a green tag is never discounted, but I think it's worth it. Also it's a strong runner

Thrift stores here get pounded by about 10-15 people EVERY DAY.

Goodwill here..anything worth anything..they send to their online auction.

Salvation army sends anything good to the stores in larger cities.

The two independent ones..ebay everything.

Yes it's an Elgin, Goose. Looking at what they're selling for it appears it's not a smok'n deal, but a pretty decent price for a railroad grade watch. This one was made in 1911. Our thrift stores get pounded pretty hard also Detecto. Tuesdays are a 50% off most items to folks over 55. Sometimes you'll see things in the jewelry case with the right tag for the discount, but this green tag item will never be discounted. Most ts shoppers around here are looking for good deals on clothes. I'm always hunting for antiques or items that can make 50% + on eBay.

Most the seniors I see are filling their shopping carts up with a hodgepodge of stuff because it's cheap. Makes me wonder how much longer it'll be before my aging brain will flip to that mentality and I'll be blocking the aisles with my shopping cart full of crap. ???

Eevr since I was young I have always hung with the older folks.

Hey, Hey, Hey, I am a senior and I value the discount I got on that plastic cup yesterday. I mean I don't need it, and it has a big hole in the bottom, discolored from sitting out side in the sand box and possible dog poo. But I am a sucker for a discounted item.

That's a great watch. The engraving on the movement is beautiful. I wish they sold exhibition case backs for watches like this. I would stare at it all day

I took those pictures from inside the truck. Here's a couple for ya in better light of the movement and excellent condition dial. S/N 16213982 puts it before the Titanic sunk and in a time when the American watch companies such as Elgin, Hampden, Waltham and others, put much more detailed and beautiful damascening on their movements.
