I just got home from the local ARC and unscrewed our Lord from the cross to clean up this cast nickel and micro mosaic crucifix, I paid $9 and change for. A lot of time I'm sure goes in to these little mosaic works of art and I find them absolutely fascinating. I do think it odd, that the Christ figure would cover up a portion of the mosaic work, but only one screw from the back attaches the Jesus figure, so it's easy to show what's underneath. I think Jesus could be casted in solid silver by the look and weight of him and I don't see any purity marks on him either. I'm thinking it's a souvenir from the city of Rome? Not sure of when it was made, but judging how It's made I'm guessing maybe from the 1950s?

Yeah I'll go with it being older than what I was first thinking?. I'm seeing sales of these going from $50. to about $400. on eBay for some that are almost identical. I now think the cross is chrome plated, because of one I saw on eBay being heavily pitted from maybe being around a coastal area for many years? The surface of mine looks pretty good.

I thought so. It amazes me what can end up at times in a thrift store. I'm always on the lookout for the old and unique things that find they're way to a flea market or second hand store. To me it's the easiest form of treasure hunting, with great results at times.

Missed this thread. That's a beautiful piece. I haven't run into one of those yet. I like finding vintage and antique religious items regardless of the religion.
