This is the deepest coin yet out of this hunted out park so far. I was using an 8" coil and snagged it at about 9-10". I thought it was iron and out popped the coin. My heart started pumping as i looked at this unfamiliar coin, it's my first seated dime! Dang it's only canadian dime. I found out they are quite rare and old 1870-1901. Any of you girls or boys found one like this? I would be interested to see it. Unfortunately the date is worn off.

What a funtabulous find.
That is awesome, and you are making me want one of those Minelab's even more.
Keep it up, looks like it did not take you long to master that machine.

It definitely looks like the date is 187-something. It can't be 1878, because there weren't any minted that year. If you look below the wreath, you will see the "H" mintmark, so it was made in England at Heaton's mint. So, it can be 1871, 1872, 1874, or 1875. The other years minted in Heaton were 1880, 1881, 1882, 1883, and 1890. Hopefully, you will be able to figure out which one it is. The 1872-H and 1875-H are the most expensive. These are always fun to find. Also, the reason that they wore down quicker than U.S. coins of the same period is that they were .925 silver, instead of .900 silver, so they are a little softer.

Good find, I like Miss Vicky. I don't know where I got the idea that the -H was for Hamilton (isn't there a Hamilton in Ontario? Ahh, I can't account for my thought processes..)

Here's the 1871-H I found one or two years ago. I figured it was worth $55 then.

This should give you an idea what they look like. I popped out this one in a park when they tore out an asphalt walking path and replaced it with concrete.
