Found a Bullet. Old?

I know zippo about bullets. Found this one a few weeks ago while lakeshore mding. It still has a bottom on so I think its never been fired. Its approximaly a 1/2 inch long and a 1/4 inch wide, and its more of a whitish color than the pic. Can anyone give me any info on it?

Found along a lake in North St Paul, Minn. Sort of far away from the civil war area.

Neat old bullet! 1/4 inch wide would make it a .25 caliber. Probably a .35 or 38 cal lead round nose bullet.

Thanks Carl. Do you think it would be from the late 1800's or later? Any guess at what kind of gun it could have come from? Any other boards or websites you think I should post it on for id?

That is a CW 3 ringer. Not sure of the size, maybe a .58 cal

Many soldiers came from all over the US to fight in the CW.

1/4 in wide is a smaller calliber. It looks like it has been fired because of the compressed rings and I can also see possibly six sides. 8)

Thank you all for the info. I have found several round lead balls in the sand on this same beach, so perhaps soldiers practiced here before heading south. If it is from the CW era, it would be my oldest find. Its amazing.

civil war era type bullet due to the type and numbers of rings (blackpowder weapons) more modern bullets do not have ring on them and are often copper coated.

The closest CW Bullet that I could come up with would M&M 146 or M&M 510 Smith & Wesson.But the M&M 510 might be a little small.
But it does look to be old.

Number one: you found a neat bullet, which I have not done at my superanuated age. But I still think that it is probably a .38 cal lead round nose bullet. Based on it's shape, maybe a .38 S&W, from the 30's or 40's. I still reload these rounds for antique revolvers.

It would be neat if you could get a digital caliber read out and take a good measurement
of the 3 ringer. That way it would give us a better reading on it. Thanks
