Buckle found at 1700S Homesite!

I posted this buckle back in november when i found it at a site that Hogge and i were hunting and just got around to cleaning it up some(because there is nothing else to do here in ma with 2 feet of snow) >:(
The pics are before and after.The frame is of shadow box type home made buy yours truly G1 ;D

Your restoration came out fantastic. It is tough to find those iron shoe buckles in any kind of condition. I bet your was silver plated at one time in it's life. That is a great find.

I believe it to be copper-alloy, probably brass with iron residue stuck to it.

I wish I could get a whole one, but doing ploughed fields means lots of bits....

Golden 1, you did an amazing restoration on that buckle. It looks great. Wanna share your method?

As you know, most of the colonial buckles found around here come out of the ground in the condition like the one in your 'before' pic, or even worse. I would give anything to have my buckles look like the one in your 'after' photo... Though, I must admit that I have never really tried to 'restore' one. Think I'll have to give it a shot now !!!!

Nice job with the frame box too !!!
