Detecting an Old Quarry by the Railroad...

Found this stuff in an hour and a half hunt right before dark today between an old quarry, an old lead mine, and the tracks...



Colgate/Palmolive token

Soaked the pennies in hot vinegar for the first time...not sure how long to do it for, but it seems to have over-cleaned them. They are 1917D, 1919D, and a 1925S..
And my first RR Lock...Everything still moves freely, not sure how old it is (The Atlantic and Pacific RR finished the tracks in 1870, and sold them to the San Francisco RR in 1876), But it's been the BN for quite a while...



And some buckles and stuff...

found it on the narrow road going down the ridge to the mine....maybe some sort of horse/mule/ox tackle?

Hey man, nice digs! I especially like the RR switch lock. I have found one but it was broken, but it is still one of my favorite finds. I have hunted along the RR tracks quite a bit but there is so much scrap iron I usually don't find much worth keeping. (My wife worked for a shortline railroad for 23 years, and scrap for the steel mill was their main load). I have quite a bit of RR memoriabilia that I should put in some kind of display, but it's one of those things you just never get around to. Monty

The lock was found about 30 yds. from the tracks up the hill in a pile of rocks busted out of the hillside(limestone). It wasn't really in the dirt, just kinda hanging in the pockets between the rocks and rotted leaves.
