Not the greatest find, but I have really wanted to find one. I was very happy it wasn't crushed, and in pretty good shape. There are some cool designs along the rim I tried to capture. It is marked "STERLING 12". Anyone know what that means?
There is also some kind of a mark on the inside. I took a pic so you can see what I can see.
I am very tempted to clean it with silver polish, anyone want to talk me out of it? Does it have any value? Any guess on how old it is?
Thanks in advance,
Jon Dickinson.

JOn...I'm not positive, but I think the 12 is for the thimble size.

Nice!!! I found one a few years back that was smashed, but it did say the name of a neighboring town on it.
I seem to have lost it and a couple of shoeboxes full of finds since the move.

A silver thimble is an awesome find especially with all the hallmarks and design! I think the 12 is the size. I have found well over 100 thimbles but only one silver. HH, Mike

Personally, I would wash the dirt off it, but not polish it.....But that's just me.

Thanks for the info on the size marking!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still not sure how much I am going to clean it up. I do want to be able to read the makers mark on the inside.

I have found a small number of thimbles, so I guess I got pretty lucky that this one was silver.

Regards,
Jon Dickinson.

I like finding those kind of things, I've found two so far but mine aren't silver! Congratulations.

My one and only thimble is silver, size 13. I didn't pay any attention to them until I found one, now I'd love to find another. Hundreds of silver coins, one thimble. Nice find!
