After spending most of the day on a family trip to Henry VIII Palace we only had 2 hours of light to hunt.

I found our best Roman Bronze in a long while. It takes a 100 scrappies this year to get one as nice as this. No idea why it survives & others in the field don't :icon_scratch:

Its quite a rare one as well, with it filling a hole in the album collection:

Fausta - AD315-25ish
Daughter of Maximianus & wife of Constantine the Great.
AE3
Reverse:
Fausta holding Constantine II & Constantius II as babies!

Also got a good trade/pan weight of George I.

Tomorrow we have plenty of time on the field, so I'm already buzzing about what may happen in the next section

I would rather this than an average hammered, this ones probably worth more as well. Although tomorrow I planning on getting another  Dad & I are on 29 so I'm not complaining about missing one in a 2 hour hunt ::)

That is a beautiful Roman bronze, unusual for you to pull such a beauty! What is the mint mark? STN or STR? Pan weight is nice along with the other finds. HH, Mike

STR, if it were the same coin but PLON its would be a £150 coin :'( Still a cool coin for the album & might be the best I get all this year!

Crusader,

Either someone is using your posts to get their post count up or He has a Mancrush on you? :dontknow:

He has managed to dig out every old post from you over the past year I think?

Watch your back next time you out in the stubble fields! :help:

A big WELL DONE to Cru :notworthy:. That is a really nice coin. It never ceases to amaze me how you can find a whole bunch of grots in a field and then also in the same field you find a real beauty. What saves one coin but condemns another to oblivion in the same field ? .
Unfortunately I have been tied up with work and family matters for the last few days, but I have ghosted this site from a relatives pc and have been amazed at the finds everybody has been pulling up recently. And your deductive skills in identifying, Cru :read2:. There is no other recourse than to order an XP myself :icon_thumright:.

ps
I have now bought a new camera, so if nothing else you will see some really nice Roman grots

This was an old post from 14th of March.

You are right, it is strange how some survive & other don't. Its mostly to do with the metal quality & mixes of alloys, but there are many other aspects; luck, staying out of plough depth for some time, chemicials unevenly spread, soil conditions (wet/dry), etc..

The XP is an excellent ploughed field detector, its not the deepest on the market but it has the quickest recovery rate, excellent in heavy nail areas.

If I were changing metal detecters, I would'nt go for the XP :P the E Trac would be my choice :read2: it's a far better detecter all round, costs a lot more :'( but you will find a lot more :o
