Today's Finds, Nice '44 Nickel, some clad, other junk

I hunted today for about 4-5 hours, started at the city park and stayed there for a couple hours, found the kids ring...not silver or anything, bummer....but my second fake ring since I started MDing in July, also found a dime and some memorial cents. From there I went to buy another digging tool because I bent my trowel that I was using at the park, stopped by Ace hardware and got a nice new garden trowel, this baby is like 3/16 steel and won't bend at all, it's also graduated up to 4" and sharp on the edges, and for only 7 bucks, I really like it now...from there I went to my father-in-law's house, there is an old house seat back in the woods that dates back to the 40's or so, that is where I found the nickel, my first silver coin so far, well 35% silver that is, but its in really good condition tho!! My wife went to the old homesite with me and looked around, but I only got to detect a small part of the yard, mostly finding old toothpasted tubes, screw caps and a couple old style pulltabs. I also found an old bottle that has grapes cast into the glass and says "FAIRVIEW WINE CO OF MAINE". There's also a dried up well there but its pretty deep. The house must have burnt down because all that is left is the block fouindation and remnants of a fridge, stove and mattress springs. I'll probably hit the park and the old homesite again tomorrow along with some other old home sites in the woods at a state park near here. Wish me luck on finding jewelry in the park and winning the Powerball......300 mil...wouldn't that be nice!! Anyways...HH

Excellent! I like the silver nickel and the new digger! I got a Powerball ticket too, but that would be too easy, I'll just keep looking for a cache! ;D

Nice finds! I love that bottle, and silver is always sweet, 35% or not! That nickel sure looks nice! Good luck hunting that spot!

your'e right, finding the cache would be just as exciting if not more than winning the jackpot

I cleaned the nickel with Connoisseurs Jewelry cleaner and it worked great, don't use it on non-silver tho, it makes pennies look like they look when you put water on them....but it sure worked wonders for this 1944D nickel!!

I like the digger alot too now since I got to use it, its gonna be tough to bend this one

The wife has to work until 2 tomorrow and the kids are at the grandparents house so I'm gonna try to get out early tomorrow so I'll have lots of sweepin' and diggin' time.......

Congrats on the 1st silver!! WTG!! I use that same digger ,but be careful beause I buy them ALL the time from being TOO agressive with them. They are a cast aluminum/zinc alloy and they will snap rather than bend.WTG!! on the finds.

I think that it is a bracelet but it doesn't look like it is made of any precious metal although it is a box type link like some gold chains I've seen....its too tarnished to be anything good I think, hopefully I find more good stuff there tomorrow and there are many bottles that aren't broken there too......

Nevrdun,

load of finds.

this might help with an I.D. on the bottle:
http://www.fairview.co.za/home.html

Have used the exact same digger you purchased, for the last two years. Rugged, comfortable, like it
a lot, and like the price.

have a good un............

SHERMANVILLE ILLINOIS?

thanks for the link, I don't think that the bottle is worth much tho, someone tried to sell one on ebay about a week ago and it didn't sell, high shipping costs tho not to mention a terrible picture.....any ideas on getting the crud out of the bottle, otherwise the bottle is in perfect condition, no chips at all and there are many different kinds of older bottles at the site too!!

I am really loving my new detector, today was only the third really long day that I've had since I got it, it's so much better than having to guess at pinpoint and depth, very light too...can't wait to get back out tomorrow!!
