I'm excited!

Hey All!
I decided to crawl underneath the house I rent an apartment in again today. I went under a couple of months ago. It's pretty creepy under there (lots of cobwebs and funky looking bugs). Anyway, I've been twice already and found 1-1920 & 1-1940 Wheatie and a really cool copper die plate with a Heron and water scene on it. Looks like it would have been used for stamping something.

Well, I ventured under the house again today and......Viola'! Got a reading for a nickel and I found it. Couldn't tell what it was until I got in the house. The soil under the house has all kinds of junk in it, and it tends to corrode metals. When I got the little jewel cleaned up (as good as possible), I discovered it to be a 1908 Liberty Head Five Cent piece!! WOOOOOHOOOOO! :o I'm just thrilled to pieces over it. I really get beat up when I go under the house, but I guess it's been worth my aches and pains!

The coin is not in very good condition and I wish that I could post a pic, but I don't have my digital camera. It's still a 1908 coin and that's all that matters to me!
Thanks for reading!

Happy Hunting!
Cindy

I'm willing to do and go a lot of places in the name of metal detecting, but under a house with bugs is not one of them.
congrats on your finds.

Very nice! I always say I'm going to detect my crawlspace in the Winter but never do, I usually only work in there when needed... Maybe this Winter? Nice nickel!

Re: I'm excited!

Thanks Leon. I checked out your crawlspace goodies.......very impressive! I love the lightbulb!

I'm not sure of the year that this house was built.....but surrounding houses are at least 100 years old. I love in the historic district of Aiken.

I did dig out some old newspaper from the fireplace opening down below (fireplace has been walled up) and the date on the paper was October 13, 1946. Pretty cool to see the old comics and advertisements.

The coins that I found were underneath the front porch. Slats in the boards allow for goodies to drop through and low and behold....a couple of them did! Lucky for me. They were about 2 inches down. The crawlspace (more like a squat space) has a dirt floor making it even more icky!

As soon as I can get my hands on the digital....I'll post pics!

Thanks everyone for your replys.....I'll keep you updated on any other finds!

Happy hunting!

Moon
