Need help id'ing thingy

My son went out last night and came home with this thingy..
Its kinda neat...Its hinged on the back side and there are 2
little comparments that open up...It has 2 little hooks on the
top and and 2 little hole where maybe a chain could of been attached.
I thought maybe it was for cigarettes...Not really sure...any idea's...

Thanks ,Headhunter

Another possibility is a trick wallet.... you know the dollar's there then it disappears. The other guesses were great too.

Re: Need help id'ing thingy

Is it completely metal? Looks like leather from here. It looks really old to me..I think too old for business card holder. Maybe a photo display? I think too flat for cigarettes. Who knows?

Very cool find!

Looks like a note card holder with a pencil or pen holder at the top. Used by traveling door-to-door salesmen.

Re: Need help id'ing thingy

The thingy is made of copper. I like the idea of note card holder...
The two copper loops on the top would hold a pencil...I've been
looking all over on the net for something like it...but nothing yet..
Keep the idea's coming...

Thanks to all...

I guess there ain't many fly fishermen here.
It's a fly box for holding hand tied fishing flies. There would of been a sort of foarm or leather material inside to hook the flies to.

No thanks! You I D your own thingy! OH!! You mean that thingy!

I Imagine Lumix is right. But a shot in the dark here, could it be a census takers note pad or poll taking pad holder? HH

Here is a newer card holder that looks similar, it also has a notepad & pen.

Re: Need help id'ing thingy

I agree with the fellow that sugested it might be a fly holder for fishing, my grampa had a couple very similar looking, had cloth on inside covers to hook flys into.
