BIG first out of the way + 1800's silver

D-Dub and I wanted to hit up an area we started at last week and didn't finish due to the Jackson Beach hunt that we went to. Let's just say it was a hell of a day. I'll let D-dub tell his side of the story, but he struck first.

I was getting kinda antsy hoping to find some goodies today, and then I got a weird signal, coming in only from one direction at 10 inches! 12-44 jumping to 12-46/7 on the 'Trac. That's a dime/quarter signal. Jumping around and unstable. The tone sounded awesome though.

I dug a big plug, I put the probe in the hole and it was singin'. I looked at the screen and it said 12-46/7. (solid quarter for me). I was hoping it would be "Seated" since the park goes back to the 1860's. Out popped the 1899 Barber Quarter! ;D

D-dub was by me the whole time, 'cause he was comparing the signal with me, and then he said to check the hole. I put the probe in the hole and it was singing again. This time I was pumping with so much adrenaline that I didn't even look at the screen. I just gently started rubbing dirt out of the hole with my fingers in anticipation ( thinking maybe dime was masked by quarter ).

To my surprise, out pops out this whopper of a beauty. My first and oldest half! 1906-D Barber Half Dollar. I still can't believe I found this where I did, as this place is "hunted out!" ;D

Also ended up with 6 wheaties: '10, '13, '20, '26, '30, & '44

Then I also had a quarter signal that came out to be this pin. No clue as to what it is. Anyone have any clue on what it could be?

I think your pin is possibly a US Army collar disc from around World War I period. I think the torch may represent the state of Indiana. Nice finds!

It is an R.O.T.C. collar insignia.

Here is a picture of an example I found:

Thanks for the help. I thought it might have had something to do with the olympics. I'm definately excited about this find though.

First of all.....Awesome finds!! Maybe your pin is some kind of award. I googled it and came up with......

A lapel pin depicting a powerful flaming torch with "Spirit of Achievement" inscribed on the flame. The pin makes a great award, motivation tool or event emblem.

I think I've seen it before and can't place it right now. Someone here will know for sure.......Good luck!
Gosh I love our hobby!
