Ok folks - I know my US Civil War buttons but I'm not so good with the European uniform buttons. I could use help nailing this one down. :dontknow:

I found this nice one piece uniform button today in Frankfurt Germany. The front depicts a crown over shield with the Prussian? Eagle, the back mark reads " * EXTRA FEIN * A".

Thanks for looking and mucho appreciation for any additional info you can provide.

I think you are looking at around 1870s. I found one simular to that while stationed there. Looks to be in good shape. You need to try the area around Mainze. Lots of Napleonic stuff there.

Thanks for the info.

re the button I was thinking it may be earlier that 1870. I don't know about Europe but by then most US uniform buttons were of the 2 or 3 piece variety. I'm just making an assumption at this point.

Re Mainz here are a few items I have found around there.
