I spent about two hours in a Middle School Ballfield with my four year old.I came across a heavily green petina coin.Wasn't sure what it was at first.I cleaned it under the water faucet.I still couldn't figure out what I had.It was soaking in olive oil for the last 3 days. Finally I noticed the word token on the back.i thought it was a game room token at first but this had a much larger diameter.I next saw the word Montreal, and the words UN SOU in the center of a wreath.I did some research on line and found a picture that matched perfectly.I now have it soaking in baking soda and vinegar.Research says it is a 1837 or 1838 Canadien token. If this is true it is my oldest find to date.

My buddy was hunting near a 1812 "fort" type site hear in SE VA, thought he had a large cent, and turned out to be one of those! 1837 no less, whatre the odds? Congrats on a cool find!

I believe that there were several varieties of these types of tokens. Early Canada coins were made from the banks and not government mints. Provinces and the like would make their own money(Tokens). I found one dated 1844 from the Bank of Montreal. Yours is a few years earlier. Nice find right there and in great shape. The good part about the Token is that there will be an exact amount minted for those years in the World Coin books. Congrats on the find... jgas...

That was definitely lost recently, probably a show & tell item. I have seen many found and most are brutal out of the dirt. I would be quite happy to have one like that!
