Friday I hit one faithful old park and got 2 mercs in about 2 hours. No wheaties...no injun's no nothin' else...but did get 2 mercs. :icon_scratch:

I then picked up the Yeti..and the second park we hunted has been pounded for many years by some legendary fellers'. :icon_thumleft:

I try to hunt here once a month or so...and every time I do...I see other people "Exploring".

Signals are few and far between and I will not lie.... I have spent 4 hours here on more than one occasion and come home with nothing but 2 or 3 nails to show for my work. ::)

Well needless to say...after 2 hours I had absolutely NOTHING in my pouch. ::) Well I take that back. I did have 2 pieces of wire...a freakin' rusty nut...and one rusty nail. :laughing9:

I then decided to go back over some ground that most of my silver has come from at this park.

I had spent the first 2 hours "exploring" parts of the park I hadn't hit much but came up empty handed..so I figured I'd go right back to the area that had produced over the last couple of years.

I went slower than slow and listened for every peep. This area is like the "Twighlight Zone" site where I pulled a Morgan Dollar...two Barber halves...and an 1897 fishscale last year. There are times...and it is most of the time ::)...that I get some ridiculous interference at this one patch of ground. :-\ It doesn't matter where the gain is set at...where the sensitivity is set at..what coil I use...etc. The SE just goes berzerk and whines...moans...falses...chirps...etc. ??? All I hear is a bunch of high pitched jibberish...so I just wander away from the area until it settles down. :dontknow:

Same thing happened today...I hit the spot...then the SE started going nuts...so I just moved a few feet away. :)
When I turned around for the return pass...the interference seemed to disipate...and I started hitting signals. :headbang:

A few minutes later I got one of the deepest...strangest hits I have had in a while. :tongue3: It really sounded like an injun'...but every 3rd pass or so I could hear a nice higher warble peep through. :-* The hit didn't repeat...didn't sound great...cursor was nutty...etc...but I was bored. ;D

After messing with it for a while...I finally got a sweet narrow window over the target that repeated form one angle. I didn't think it was quite high enough to be silver ...but every now and then the sound got me excited :laughing7: ...and again...I was bored. :hello2:

I dug a nice big plug and ran the probe...nothing. ??? I dug some more out of the hole...and still nothing. ??? I was now irritated and ready to fill it back in and move on. :icon_scratch: I kept mumbling to myself..."Freakin' pro coil" :laughing7: ..."freakin' ghost holes" :help: ...and a few other choice words. :icon_sunny:

I then decided to give the hole one last swipe and took another slice out of the side of the hole instead of the bottom. I ran the probe one last time...and it sang off to the side of the hole...and deeeeeep. :icon_thumleft:

I began to chip away at the pinpointed spot...and caught the glimpse of silver peeking out. It was 100%...and I mean 100% straight on edge. :headbang: A 1917 D Merc.

Yeti said..."too bad you don't have a way to take a picture of that...'cause that's amazing".

I then remembered I had brought along the digital camera for the first time. WHY???...because ever since the Yeti sprawled out in the middle of one park and began to eat berries ;D ...AND Darrell fell on his big butt and rolled into the pond at the last park ;D ....I vowed to try and catch one of them doing something goofy on camera. :blob10:

What you see in the pics is the actual coin in the actual hole. It was straight on edge and 9" deep. I know it's just a merc...but you can see the exact reason it was still in the ground after all these years.

If you look closely at the one pic that shows my SE...the plug...etc...you can see the coin on edge at the bottom...just off the the left of the center of the hole.

About 1/2 hour later I snuck up on the Yeti and caught him on film for the FIRST TIME for your viewing pleasure :laughing9: He was right in the middle of digging the silver dime he found.

A day with a friend...great. :icon_thumleft: A silver dime from straight on edge at 9" deep...AWESOME. :hello2: Capturing the Yeti in his natural Himalayan habitat of being on his knees and diggin' for silver....PRICELESS! :notworthy: :headbang: :laughing7:

I ended up with 7 pieces of iron crap....NO wheaties...NO injuns....NO jewelry..but did get 4 Mercs on the day 1917D...1919D...1937...and 1943....so I'm NOT complaining.

Thanks for viewing...and good luck on your next hunt.

Nice hunt Bryce. That silver must be easy to find up there.

So easy even a yeti can find it. :D

:icon_thumright: Nice haul man. I've been out for hours today and yesturday with nothing to show but a few common clad pennies and a clad quarter. I'm disheartened right now. But hey, you give me hope.

Bryce, I love your stories and your sense of humor, but this particular story really stands out for me! Your persistence really pays off and I admire you for that! :notworthy: Don't ever downplay your Merc's, cause I've never found one and they are truly on my wish list.

That picture of the Yeti is priceless! He's not as hairy as I though he would be! ::)

Another nice job on the silver.....Keep em comin buddy and thanks for sharing another cool story!! :icon_thumleft:

Congrats!
Wow, that little sucker was really on edge! Nice digs, and way to stick with the signal!
That little bugger really couldn't of given you much to work with!

Nice pic of the Yeti! I wish I could find someone like that to hunt with! It really is hard to find someone to hang with that can even make me look young and trim! LOL.

Ok, even he couldn't do that for me!

Love the post!
Good Luck!
