Those with a good memory will remember us spending about 34 days covering this field last year. It about the only land we get during the Winter as all the thousands of acres we can search are under crop.
45 minutes into the hunt, I turned to Cru'Dad & said 'what are the chances of us finding a hammered off here?' (knowing that he was looking at the records/map last night). He said very unlikely, as we have only had 3 off the whole field in about 5 years. I only wish I was talking about my next gold coin, because on that same run about 30 yards from where I asked the question, guess what popped up! ;D
Cru'dad got the bonus Sixpence.
Only had 2.5 hours (5 man hours effort):
2 Musket Balls
2 Vicky Pennies
1 Scrappy Roman
Bag Seal
1817 Sixpence
1584-86 Elizabeth I Halfgroat :)

An excellent session for this extremely poor land.

'prasutagus' stopped by the field, as he saw our car from the road. He gave us some encouraging news, he may have secured some winter hunting grounds. Can't wait as this 'Land Magnet' always comes up with the good stuff :icon_thumright:

Kinda of.

I had an idea, that before they build a new housing estate nearby on one of my better Roman Sites, that I could invite over some of you to rescue & record some history before it was lost under cement. The general idea would be to work with the County Archaeologists to record & map with GPS every significant find on the fields (all finds other than those that fall under the Treasure Act would be the property of the finder, items taken from the country would need an export licence which can be arranged). I would instance on a GPS being purchased prior to arrival & a fee being paid to a local charity for the privilege. (the charity would be picked by the local landowner & could be published as good relations).

This is only an idea which has no substance, as I've yet to approach the owner & the development may not go ahead.

Sounds like a great start already for an idea. Nice going on the hammered. :icon_thumright:
