Return to the Roman Site....UPDATED

The 2 inches of snow on the ground was not the problem, it was the 6 inches of solid frozen Clay! Hurt my feet jumping on the spade & was hard to get some of the finds out. We did manage 5 hours in the bitter freezing conditions but really enjoyed being out & it was sunny instead of sleet etc...

We always planned to return here when the rough ploughed field was graded, it had been rolled once but is still was less than perfect. So we put on the large Coils & set to work finding what we had missed late last year.

The more I use the 11'' XP coil, the more I'm impressed, super sensitive & I dug the Roman Silver at 8 inches (bear in mind the uneven conditions & snow), plus the largest Roman Coin at over 10 inches (I was shocked it wasn't a large piece of lead)

The Coils definitely made the day:

24 Roman Bronze Coins
Excellent Medieval Heraldic Stud (went on the Horses leather)
Very cool Roman Bronze Bead (design I have not yet seen)
Debased Roman Silver - Julia Domna

Saxon Sceat circa 7th Century (might be a rare Series V, type 7?). Very surprised by this, I only got my 1st & 2nd Sceat last year, so to get this so early in the year, I can't ask for a much better start in difficult times!

Only 11 of this type of Sceat are recorded!

The enameling on the Medieval piece is outstanding. Wonderful that you found it intact.

Cheers, its all helped by our GPS maps of the site, which put us bang into the find zone. We only have half of this hotspot left to complete the area, so it will not be long until we are stratching our heads again
