I'll bet if it is real, he hangs on to it and his great grandkids use it as a doorstop or the key hide in the front flower bed. If it isn't real, he sells it to someone who thinks it is and makes a bundle.

At least that's how it would go in my family.

Good luck either way. It would make an awesome doorstop.

Re: Found GOLD in the BRADSHAWS

Strick calm down bud!!!I hate to be a kill joy but.......(well first hey nice specimen!)a 20 lb rock doesnt mean squat!!!What happens if you have a 100 pound rock with a little gold showing??Does that mean I have 25 pounds of gold? :icon_scratch:Not.There is a formula to figure it out and it doesnt employ water, and it is a guestamate. The only true way to get an accurate idea of whats in it would be to crush and pan...which I dont recommend. You are not going to get $1000x 20 either if you do send that buyer my way!Collectors whom pay specimen are not buying right now,I cant blame em.The finder sounds knowledgeable so I am sure he will do whats right.I would get an X-Ray of it were it me

This should answer a few questions about Pyrites there's a link also , below is whats quoted in the link . Good luck great find

It can be tricky to the beginner! Below I have added some pictures that show the differences in common pyrites found in Arizona and Arizona gold. I detected all the gold you see in the pictures below with using either a White's GMT or a Minelab GP Extreme. Click the pictures to enlarge them. Some of the pieces of gold pictured below I have never shown before making this web page. All the gold below is specimen gold they are not nuggets. The reason I used specimen gold is all of the pictures I am sent always have "host rock" in them. You cannot "flake" gold off a rock with a knife, if you hit gold in rock the rock will break/shatter but the gold will flatten/bend. Pyrite if struck with a hammer will shatter/crumble.

http://arizonagoldprospectors.com/goldandpyrites/metaldetector.html

Have you tested for flakes?

Found a rock last year that turned out to be fools gold:

By Definition:

"iron pyrite" aka "iron sulfide"

is an Iron.
A good Gold detector Should pick up Iron

Re: Found GOLD in the BRADSHAWS

Fantastic find Danb! hope everything goes as planned! I think what Strick said about the detector you used and the company that owns it would be very interrested in your find! Go for it and NAME your price, I'm sure other offers will come to you also! Good Luck!!!

Re: Found GOLD in the BRADSHAWS

Man, all the years I MD'ed, panned, sluiced and dredged the Bradshaws, I never saw one of those. At least not where I went.. (From Rich Hill to Lynx Creek, to Cleater to Castle Hot Springs)
Grats on a GREAT find!!
