Today i stopped at the local college to speak to a professor about a stone pipe my friend found in a box of junk (the story and pics are in the What Is It forum). After I left the college, I headed out to a CW camp I've been hunting lately. On the way , I stopped at a farmer's house to secure permission to hunt his land across the street from the CW camp where there is an old period house overgrown with briars and half collapsed. Permission granted. About 2 or 3 yrs ago , a buddy and me had salvaged a lot of flooring and material from this house. We found perfectly preserved newspapers from 1929 under the linoleum rugs. Anyways, I was metal detecting around the house and finding a few brass shells and within 15 mins , it began to rain. I ducked into the house for shelter and started checking the mantles and digging through the boxes and bags of junk and trash scattered throughout the house. Most of the stuff was dated from the 1950's thru 1980's. I found some rings and jewelry(mostly junk), buttons , vinyl records,2 pairs of eyeglasses marked 1/10 12k GF, a ring marked 10k GF SHANK, a pin or tie tack with the NC state seal marked LGB 10k, I found some tokens, a 1980 french 10 centime coin and an album full of brass social security cards and placard samples...and a bunch of other stuff ...too much to mention. I just love rummaging through old houses looking for treasure.

Thanx for looking and HH y'all

Thats some cool stuff. Just to clarify things, we are to assume that you have permission to rummage through the farmers building??

yes..as a matter of fact , we had permission to tear it completely down ( that is , what's left of it) but my slavaging buddy only wanted the flooring and i took some beadboard. I may at some point salvage the hand hewn old growth heart pine beams.

Some of the wood in the old houses is treasure in and of itself.
If the floors have been taken up, have you put your detector on the ground under the flooring? Might be some
interesting stuff there. For sure, will be a ton of nails. But............
Have some fun hunts there......keep us posted.

Yeah but not terribly valuable. It was American poster companies that air-brushed the smoke from Pauls hand, much to the dismay of Apple Records. The offending cigarette helped give rise to the 'Paul is dead' rumor. Paul McCartney is left handed, the cig is in his right hand. Other 'tip-offs' included Lennon dressed in white signifying a preacher and the so called actor 'playing Paul' with bare feet. (meaning corpse) Find an original Beatles 'butcher' cover for REAL value!
