Nice merc, Cathy........or did your Hubby (Chris) find it?? I'd would guess it would grade a little higher than average but I'm no coin grader expert ;D That's number 2 for the merc, isn't it ???

Hey Ron, that is #2 on the Mercs this year. Yes, Chris found it but we were detecting together. But did you see the gold pin I found yesterday?

Thanks for your reply!

Kathy

Congrats on a good find :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright
Looks that you've got a worthwhile place to detect. The long walk makes it even more interesting. It will keep lazy people out.
I cannot tell the grade your coin professionally but it seems to be in a very fine shape. At least all the details are crisp.

Nice merc. Might surprise you if you look at the actual graded stuff how much you miss with your grade.
I would guess F-20+ . Too many scratches to be XF

Big congrats on your find! :icon_thumright: Great job in your retrieval method.

I think your XF-40 grade is pretty close. The only thing that I question is on the obverse. It is hard to tell from the pic, is there some porosity?

Attached is a photo of a VF-35 graded by PCGS and a link to the closed ebay auction. Clearly yours looks better that the one in the auction. :headbang:

Here is a better picture of the back.
You don't want to clean it anymore then you might have already done.. then i think it will be worth the money to have it graded by a company... being graded will more then likely have more value an also since your not sure of grades that you won't get ripped off by a coin collector downgrading it to get a better price if you sell it ...

Here are a few I can see with the photo of the obverse.
Notice how they just ever so,,, cut through the tarnish.
