Found this today very light cleaning thinking of sending it off for repair what do you guys think.

Update: have now found that this is a very rare Confederate Georgia button may be less than 10
known. Even less than that in this vest 19mm size. Still collecting info on it. Called a Floating Georgia button.
Thanks for looking and all your thoughts and post.

Re: My first Confederate button of the year today

Thanks for the input have a few emails sent out to some of the experts when I hear more I will keep you up to date.
I would like to have it repaired but do not want to hurt the value.

Thanks again

But I don't understand what process you want to repair it? You'd have to take the entire back out and add material, or replace it. And.... you probably would hurt the value because people would assume there was probably no back and you just had one stuck on.

With most of the others...do a proper cleaning on the face and leave the back alone

Read the posts on the other forum and definitely sounds like this is a banner find. Really though, any CW GA button probably should be up there anyway.

Thanks Iron Patch I am really excited to find this button.
This has to be my best find ever and I have dug a five gallon
bucket full of civil war relics and a bunch of great coins and jewlery.

Have some emails out to some Civil war Experts and am waiting on some replies from them on what should be
done as far as prserving and cleaning any more on this button. I am afraid to do any thing more to it at this point.

Thanks
Jason

Got to show this button to a guy at work today that works for the local CBS news they want to do a story on it. Thought that was kind of cool but do not know if I should do it or not. The archies may have something to say do not want to do any thing to hurt our hobby. What do you guys think. Was found on private property with permission but withe the value it has may be a bad Idea.

Some jump to grab the glory but I definitely stay away. The rule I made for myself a long time ago was to share as much as I want with fellow detector people, but keep it pretty low key around everyone us. Me, I'd take the high and put it into an effort to make another good find, and forget about news stories. When your coil is hot you gotta be out there!

Ditto!

Nice find on the button, but the 15 minutes of fame might more like a flame.
