Found this today very light cleaning thinking of sending it off for repair what do you guys think.

Update: have now found that this is a very rare Confederate Georgia button may be less than 10
known. Even less than that in this vest 19mm size. Still collecting info on it. Called a Floating Georgia button.
Thanks for looking and all your thoughts and post.

Jason

Nice find!!! As hard as these CW relics are getting to find, I would send it to Robert McDaniel in Alabama and it will come back looking GREAT. If you need info. for Robert, send me a PM. WTG and HH.

Nice!

All you need to do is properly clean the face. As for the back I'd leave it as it. Why altar a dug relic when it's something you won't even see when it sits in your case. That's not to mention what would you want, construct a new back or a different one to replace it? I think that would ruin it... at least for me it would.

Re: My first Confederate button of the year today

Got this info on the button from someone any body know any thing on this button. I do not have a book.

If that is the GA215 A-1 !!
It should of had the S.ISSAACS CAMPBELL back mark.

This is what Tices say about that button.

Georgia Militia two piece
This magnificentiy styled and executed state of aerms button is one of the most treasured of all civil war ear military artifacts. At this writing I am aware of only two !! coat size button in private hands. One was found at Chickamauga and a non dug example. Two vest sizes are know both non dug. One in a museum and one in a privated collection. Only a few of the rare buttons were made in England around 1861.
Perhaps for Major Lamar Cobb's aide to General Howell Cobb.

Re: My first Confederate button of the year today

I am really excited I have gotten conformation that this is the vest size 19mm
smaller and more rare than GA215 A-1 one in Tices button book. Never know what your next dig
may be. I am a happy boy with this find.

Re: My first Confederate button of the year today

Very Nice. I agree with several others. I would clean the face a bit more and not worry about the back.
