Small flat button

This is only my second flat button but it is my favorite. It is real small. What would a button this size be used for? The only word I can make out is London. There are other letters but I can't read them. Am I correct in assuming that this button dates to the early 1800's? Thanks for all the help.

I always figured the small ones like that were cuff buttons. Yours could date from the 1790's to 1820 or so.

Thanks for the info! If it is indeed that old, that would be from one of the earliest setlers in this part of Pennsylvania. It came from an old cellar hole that dates to 1800. The earliest setler to the area came in 1796.

1820ish would have had a Quality mark like 'triple gilt' or 'standard plated' - whatever it was it was a cuff button which used to be Gold Plated at one time.

Thanks Crusader, so cuff button it is! This is my oldest find to date so that makes me happy, gonna hit that site again today.
