Went out with my brother in law and hit two sites this weekend..... the first is one he obtained permission to hunt. It was an old homestead, complete with a log house that is in a state of disrepair... we did not know the age but it looked like it could have been a colonial site.

But it was not to be. The oldest coin found were wheaties from the 40s, with no buttons. :( Part of the problem with button finding at this site is that it was littered heavily with rifle cartridges. I think we each dug a dozen or so before ignoring those signals.... there must have been about 200 more of them that I heard. Who knows what I might have missed because of them. :'( Since it was a 90 minute drive from home, we hung in there until the early afternoon. At least the weather was perfect at this quiet spot so the time spent was enjoyable nonetheless. One interesting relic is the about 3" brass disc with an indian head (???) on it. If anyone can ID that it would be appreciated. :)

So we moved up the road to another site that I have hunted in the past.... this is supposed to the be the site of a British encampment during the French and Indian War... we decided to hunt the immediate area around the 1865 era home. Again - only wheaties(!) going back to the late teens. But I was able to find a cool key at that site and a real neat token... its slightly larger than a large cent and real thick... one side says COMMANDER IN CHIEF and the other NATIONAL GUARD OF PA. While I should be able to match up the President's face, so far I've been unsuccessful.

So while the day was not as successful was we had hoped it ended with a few decent relics and a nice token. :)

Thanks for looking!

Man you are into some old turf ! I would say there will be some real oldies ,once you clear out more of the 19th cent stuff . Indian Chief looks like the early 50's Pontiac Star Chief logo . 8) 8) CMD

Cool finds. I believe the National Guard token would have the Governor of Pennsylvania on it, not the President, and I think this might be your guy.....

Edwin Sydney Stuart, Governor from 1907-1911.
