New Site, lead buttons & balls, Stamped Ingot, Chadwick Lead 1862

Came across a promising new site today.
A 20 minute search yielded 2 lead buttons, a coinlike lead slug, a marked lead weight (6.500 troy oz/ 70 DWT) interesting that this is still correct to the 1000 of an ounce.
anyone know of a significance to this particular amount?
several musketballs & a smaller lead item. after some excitement finding these,
I got a strong deep signal, and dug this large stamped ingot Chadwick lead company,
established in 1862 boston ma, also owned a lead mill in salem ma which I am very familiar with, I grew up there. Have considered searching there before, but distance has delayed this.
The ingot was 20 inches down, and estimate it wieghs 30 lb.
this called an end to the search as I had a long treck with this object back to the truck.
these are the first lead buttons I've found, if anyone can date the design on the first one, It would be greatly appreciated, i believe it is a lot earlier than the ingot. some items found in dry ground (patina), and some from salt mud,(clean).
Am looking forward to further investigation Here! Thanks for looking & HH, Herbie

Its some kind of Weight, might be a bullion weight, the nibbles out of it were to ensure the exact weight, lead is sometimes added if its a little under.

Might also be a Gold Coin Weight, they changed weight over time, so would need adjusting

Hi there.. was wondering if you came across anymore info on the Chadwick Lead Works ingot. I have 3 of them as well, and was wondering about the age, and possible value? Thanks

Herbie, where have you been? I thought something happened to you or you were snowed in. Good job on the research and VERY old recoveries. However, I don't see a spoon. HH, Quindy.

Your buttons are not lead, but pewter. Great finds, and they have some age! (1700s on the buttons for sure)

Best Wishes,

Herbie, those cast pewter buttons are a good sign. I have found them on some of my better colonial sites.

Even though this post is over a year old & your buttons in this post are pewter.I wanted to make clear they did make straight up lead ones too.As these I found,in my hand are pure lead soft as butter & no flaking.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

Cool stuff Herbie. Good to see you. The wife & I moved to East Tennessee 3 months ago. No more waiting for the frozen ground to thaw for me. :icon_thumright: Now if I could just get some of these TN boys to give me some tips I'd be a happy camper. I started a post asking for info on the laws, etc & PMed a couple guys but only got 1 response. They seem to be a little tight lipped about their secrets down here.. Hell it ain't like I was asking about moonshine... :tongue3:
