1838 SEATED SILVER DIME & THOUGHT I HAD A GOLD COIN FOR A SECOND

headed out to a cellar hole me and foundation hunter went to once awhile back.
decided to give it another shot and work it for all it's worth.

when i saw the glint of gold in the hole my heart almost stopped!
turns out it's an encased 1900 indian head penny in a :dontknow: real glass is covering the front and looks like real gold encasement with a staright broken shank :icon_scratch:
any ideas what it was used for?
also any ideas on the oval thinga-ma-jig with a bent shank :icon_scratch:
a pretty worn 1838 seated dime,a dandy or cloak button,a domed blue glass bridle rosette and a few other little keepers.not a bad hunt at all.

Oval thing with bent shank is a collar button.

Great finds! I have never seen a rosette like that one.

thanks! yeah me and like 10,000 others that's why its almost worn smooth :laughing7:
on a serious note..no i did not rub the dirt into the coin.the hairline scratches you see were probably already there from being in that soil or maybe as it was being dug up.i try to be careful with my coins.

no,i know what you are saying. the dirt was barely clinging on anyways with not much left of coin for dirt to cling to.
this was loose soil and hard to cut a perfect plug in the woods with roots and all.
coulda got some hairline scratches from bringin it up from the hole or years of frost heaves.. who knows :dontknow: it's not a big dollar coin so,i'm not too worried about it.
