1937-S Quarter, 1962-D Dime, 1916-S Wheat, & brass skeleton key!

Hi there!

I got out for a couple hours after work this evening. Decided to hit a spot that I've had my eye on for a while now. . . . . . never felt like the right moment to try it out, it's kinda a high traffic area, but today I felt it ~ so I went for it!

After a few minutes I had dug a couple clad dimes and a 1942 wheat cent ~ the area was a lot cleaner than I thought it would be ~ not a lot of targets to dig. I was on my second pass along the sidewalk edge and I got a nice sounding target. I dug down and came upon a 3 inch tree root right over the top of my target! So I had to dig around the big root. After getting around the root I had to feel around to try to locate the target . . . . . and that's when I felt the 'roundness'!! I got real excited because I could tell it was bigger than a dime or cent! It took me a few more minutes to get it out from under the root . . . . . out popped a 1937-S Washington quarter! WOOHOO!!!

Then just moments after finding the 1937 quarter, a detecting friend of mine, Noah, pulled up by me! He was on his way home from work and he seen me there sitting on the side walk digging a target! SO he went home real fast and grabbed his detector to join me!

I only dug a few more targets before the sun went down ~ a 1962-D Rosie Dime, 1916-S Wheat cent, an old brass key, and a few more modern coins.

I took pic's of the silver coins before and after I cleaned 'em up. These are my silver coin finds #136 & #137 for the year.

THANKS for looking!
Neil

Wow... It's extremely hard for me to find silver coins where I live, so it's nice to see that you are doing so well this year. I found a 1899 Barber Quarter a couple of weeks ago, and a 1884 Indian Head, but these finds are few and far between.

However... I find Wheat Cents left and right. Every time I go out I find them. I found about 80 this year. They are everywhere here... especially in the woods and different parks throughout the city. Anyway... Nice coins and I wish you more luck this year.

Nice finds Neil....WTG on the silvers. :hello2:
Why is it that the best coins are always
under a large tree root?? Congrats.

Nice silver and a key to boot! I enjoyed your description of digging under and around the tree root. Sometimes I think I am the only one doing such things.

Yeah, my wheat cent to silver coin ratio is crazy ~ I dig a ton more wheats than silver coins. But where there's wheats there's a silver or two waiting for you! GO BACK ~ start digging all the 'iffy' targets ~ I bet you'll find better stuff than you think you will! Especially with finding that Barber quarter and Indian Head cent ~ there's more there to be found man!

Good goin', oddcoins! Hey, post another pic of that 37s quarter when you've stopped shaking: obverse looks a little odd.
