thanks crusader. we've found a total of 5 buckles in one yard.

they look pretty heavy duty, so the horse might have been a heavy horse for ploughing etc

What "I" think is interesting is that 'rustic' looking St. Christophers medal. I would like to see both front and back when it is cleaned up!

When I graduated H.S. (Glendale Union High School) in 1969, my dad bought me my first metal detector.. it was a Goldak. Anyway, I took it over to Glendale Park. It was totally untouched and I filled all my pockets with silver, wheaties and IHs.. They've long since scraped the ground for irrigation and put in a new Library Bldg. so I imagine most of the old stuff that I missed is now long gone. I no longer live in AZ but I do know that there are still MANY places loaded with 'treasure'.
Anyway, interesting finds there and GL on future hunts.

horse tack, the way the post sticks out from the buckle is a positive lock to keep the straps from slipping. as was already said, it was probably from a plowing harness or possibly wagon harness

I have those buckles on the left on my halter bridle combo. all I have to do is clip my bridle right to the halter. the 2 with the pins are for adjusting the halter to your horses size head. they have to be heavy duty since you tied your horses head to whatever so they wouldn't run off if spooked or just ornery.
