She ain't pretty, but I love her!
This is why I don't find Spanish Silver, if she looks like this after 75 years or so,
not likely to be much silver left after 300 :P
some other stuff too, couple flat buttons, & a big old Crusty Pewter.
a nice silver bound pocketknife.
Picked up some halfs & Dollars from the bank, got a half with no reeding
One more day to Dig! thanks for looking!

Hello Dave, the burner is a 'Holmes Booth & Hardens' patented 1865.
(first I've heard of them)
I've been finding small pieces of those buckles since starting at this spot in the spring, I will get them all together for a picture at some point this winter,
Here's one of the larger pieces.
When I posted them on whatsit, the concensus was 'Shoe buckle'.
the smaller pieces I've found all match pattern.

Thanks for the updated information Herbie. I've owned a lot of HB & H burners in the past, they're very well made products.

"Holmes, Booth & Hayden began in 1853 with Hiram Hayden, Israel Holmes, & John Booth in Waterbury, Conn. CT. The company operated until 1901 when it became part of a consolidation which included Scovill Manufacturing & the new American Brass Co. in 1893."

You got the woods skills, I know the Coastline. I have searched many foundations i've found & have yet to make significant finds, well I did get a NICE 1886 Indian at one.
(it looks like it was dropped straight out of the mint)
Mud or rock, both can be good hunting, first you gotta find where there was activity
back then, (you know this), if it's mud, there has to be a firm substrate underneath, or everything will have sunk too deep, there's usually gravel or clay under the mud here in S. NH, look especially for out of place rockpiles! I've found 2 ships ballast stone piles that have given up dozens of military buttons & coins, the type of rocks & buried timbers confirm ballast piles.
Other coastal hotspots are inland tidal creeks that go through urban areas.
people have been swimming, losing items, & discarding trash, (what was trash then can be treasure now) in these for centuries.
If you can deal with the cold, these spots will give up finds year round.
