*******Old Gold & Silver Coin Spill..2 Firsts For Me**********
Went out for a full day with Tejasdigger on Sunday, and can say I had my best day detecting so far!!
We went to an abandoned house that dates from the early 1900's which seems like it could have some potential..Well it did for Tejasdigger since he never pulled out his detector and manages to find 3-1 dollar bills on the ground scattered thru the high grass..
Well after about 30 minutes of swinging with no signals, We decided to try a new spot..Which I'm very glad we did.
We found an older park on the same road, that had some really nice old trees, so we gave it a shot, Hunted for about 20 minutes with very few signals, Minus the the couple pounds of copper piping we were digging.. We were about to head out, when I got a decent Penny/Dime signal at 6 inches, so not expecting anything much, when saw a clump that was perfectly rounded...It was a ring!!...So I was pretty happy , but it didn't look silver, the color was a bit off, so i suspected it was junk, I brought it over to Tejasdigger, and waved it over his coil and he told me it was a low tone like gold, which didn't seem possible because my detector is set to only find Dime/Quarter/Half/Dollar, not even the zincs (on most days), well anyway, I waved it over my coil and and nothing, I did it a few more times and nothing. After Cleaning it up some I saw the 10K stamped on the Inside, then saw inscribed "1908", It looks to have an "M" on the face and weighed in at 9.2 grams. I was pretty much in shock and confused all at the same time. Because first off, this was the first piece of "Dug" gold I've ever found, and Confused because my detector picked it up??, I noticed throughout the day I was getting Penny/Dime signals and would dig them only to find little pieces of Foil. But after the ring I found, I cant complain at all about it. I also was digging up Zinc pennies for the first time in a year or so.
So after I calmed down from the ring, we decided to hit an old football field, after the first 10 minutes, Tejasdigger found a nice Mercury dime, so we were mos def in the right spot. About 5-10 minutes after that I got a solid dime signal dug a couple inches and out popped out a 52 rosie..So I was pretty Thrilled, I was finally on the board with the silver, I filled in the hole and out of habit re-scanned it, and got the same signal as before..I was thinking...Theres no way there was something else in there,
So I pulled out all the loose dirt again from the hole and swung over it, nothing..I put the pinpointer in the dirt i pulled out and it was in there...I looked , and there it was .another silver rosie!..I was freakin losing it, i know its only a rosie, but I've never gotten a Silver Coin spill before...And after the Gold Ring from that morning and the 2 silvers in the same hole, I was pretty much on cloud 9...All in all it was an awesome weekend for hunting for me, the day before I went out for an hour or so on my birthday, and scored ugly 42 Merc.. But hey..I'll take it..
I also wanted to know if anyone else has had something similar happen with there detector, im still puzzled why im getting gold and foil signals when i have then completely discriminated out. I do use a bigger coil with the sensitivity most the way up, but the whole time Ive been doing this, its never done this, I dig rusty nails alot, but never found gold by accident
I'm trying to figure out what the significance of the "1908" date would be?..
Oh and another notable find was when I woke up on Saturday and saw my B-day Cake....It was AWESOME!!!!, My girl got it made with a picture of my First Ever Silver found MD'in ...Thanks Leslers!!!!!
Thanks for looking
