Toy Cannon Barrel

I got out in a field to hunt for an hour after work. Met friends Frank and Eric there. They each had a coin, IH and LC. I had a good hit that sounded like an LC but out came this little cannon barrel. I looked on the web and there are lots of old toy cannons but none quite like this. There's no identifying marks that I can see on it. Anyone know where I might look for info on this things age or manufacturer?
Thanks,
Dave

It might be a toy, small cannon were usually presented to officers of fighting ships back in the day.

Nice, I built one out of a kit when I was a kid. Steel barrel though.

Thanks guys! Yes it has a fuse hole. Seems like it was meant to be fired. Of course if it flies across the yard when shot maybe that's how it ended up in the field.

My brother had a small cannon barrel like that.,he also had one big enough to shot a one pound ball. Presentation pieces. They were originally mounted on a block of wood,The same wood their ship was made out of, in the rough shape of a naval gun carriage. I guess the higher the rank you were the bigger the presentation cannon you were presented with. His barrels were made out of cast iron, whats that one made out of?

Thanks for the replies guys. I think it's cool so I'll hang on to it. I'm more of a hoarder than a seller anyway. From the patina on it I'm guessing it's probably brass. Iron doesn't hold up to well in the fields around here.

dave ishowed a friend of mine the post and he said
" the cannon is a blomefield in design it would date back into the 1820's to the mid 1850's
it may have been used as a hand held signal cannon
it would of been pinned to a wooden sleigh
if you look at the back end there should be signs of a piece broken off
that missing piece is were the turn screw would go
the turn screw was used to change the angle of the cannon"

Thanks for the info Frank. I don't see where anything is missing but the coating on it may make it tough to see. The Blomefield design name looks right from what I see on the net. I'll have to do some research.
