I've been hunting a home site where the circa 1800 house was intentionally burned down this winter to make way for progress :-\ The site was settled around the mid-late 1700s but I have yet to find anything older than 20th C. This was a country farmhouse and from what I've been told it didn't even have indoor plumbing until the 1960s or 70s. During the last week I've started finding a few keepers - 2 mercury dimes 1920 & 1940 and then I still can't believe it - but a 1965 5 Island Aurar from Iceland! So wild!! :icon_scratch: :dontknow: :laughing7:

Today I went to a different site - a large Colonial field that has been hunted many, many times. I was only able to wrangle some iron, some lead - including a big musket ball - weighs 27g! A toasted large cent (#3 copper for me this year!) and a broken butterfly barrette. I will be back there though - I love the challenges ::) ;D

Thanks for looking!

Do you think the Iceland coin and 27 gram musket ball are some how connected? ;D

Yes! :icon_thumleft: Went back to the burned house today and broke into the early 19th c - I think :icon_scratch: with another large cent!

Also a Chinese coin - just to keep the random theme going :laughing7: Two wheats and a buffalo nickel.

Thanks! I was thinking that - thanks for the confirmation. I might be able to get the date if I clean more but I already cleaned it a lot so I will be content with the time span and just leave her be.

#4 LC so far this year - only got 5 all last year. I must be getting the hang of this :laughing7:

VARIETY!! Nothing like finding the unexpected at those sites. Glad the burned out site produced some oldies on your last hunt there. Looks like you will be doing just fine this year with the relics and older coins........

Are you sure that coin is Chinese? most have square holes, or none.

Herbie! Thank you for noticing - that is very interesting! I just took a quick look at the coin and dismissed it without looking at it closely. What crazy finds for this place! I found that coin in the back of where the house once faced -in the middle of a field :icon_scratch:

Anyway - here are better pics of it - let me know what you think:

Ironhorse has a shore site that he found 7 or 8 old coins from different countries all on the same hunt. Strange things happen.

looks like you scored a Japan 10 yen!
I got a bunch of Chinese coinage, Best one? either a 1700s Chien-Lung Brass,
or a silver 20C from the turn of the century.
The orientals can be somewhat difficult to ID, got a Taiwanese that took a while.
Great Finds & good work on those Coppers! :hello:
